I am highlighting the seeds of a plant species on Saturdays that I am calling Seed Saturday!
This Saturday's feature is Sarracenia rubra subsp. Alabamensis, Cane-Brake Pitcher Plant. Family Sarraceniaceae.
Seed Information: This species is listed as Endangered within the United States Endangered Species Act. The seeds are found in a 5 parted, capsule/pod. The seed has a similar shape to an orange wedge; three sided, one of
those sides being rounded. The seeds surround the core with the rounded side facing out. There can be hundreds of seeds per pod.
Seed Description: The seeds are brown. The seed is three sided, with one of
those sides being rounded. The flat sides of the seed may be indented.
Seeds were viewed using a dissecting microscope with magnification of 10x and 40x. Ruler marks are in millimeters (mm, metric system).
