I am highlighting the seeds of a plant species on Saturdays that I am calling Seed Saturday!
This Saturday's feature is Callicarpa americana, American Beautyberry. Family Lamiaceae.
Seed Information: The seeds of this plant are found within very attractive pink fruit. From the fruits I examined, often 4 seeds per fruit.
Seed Description: The seeds may have a brown layer or skin around them, whiter to pale yellow underneath. The seeds have a rounded side that would point toward the outside within the fruit, so that the round fruit can be quartered into 4 parts in terms of the contents of the seeds.
Seeds were viewed using a dissecting microscope with magnification of 10x and 40x. Ruler marks are in millimeters (mm, metric system).
