I am highlighting the seeds of a plant species on Saturdays that I am calling Seed Saturday!
This Saturday's feature is Ocimum basilicum, Basil. Family Lamiaceae.
Seed Information: These are the seeds of basil, of which the leaves are used as a spice. If you put the seeds in water, they swell with a sort of gelatinous ooze around them.
Seed Description: The seeds are oval. The seeds are black. The seeds have little bumps all over them. The seeds have a node at the point of attachment to the plant.
Seeds were viewed using a dissecting microscope with magnification of 10x and 40x. Ruler marks are in millimeters (mm, metric system).
